This weekend I'm flying to my hometown of Enid, Oklahoma, where I lived until I was fifteen.

My dad was conductor of the the local symphony there for like 13 years, with Mom as the principal violin.

So for the symphony's centennial they invited Dad back to conduct the piece of his choosing (the 40-minute Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3 in A minor, "Scottish").

Being nearly 71 and very retired, this will surely be the last time he does something like this.

Seeing my folks up on stage seemed so routine in my youth.

But I would not miss this for the world.
